Established in 1996 by A V Purushothama Kamath, Alungal Farms is a unique one-and-a-half-acre botanical haven located in the busy locality of Thammanam. What began as a small initiative to conserve endangered medicinal plants gradually evolved into a passionate lifelong mission for the former banker. Today, the farm preserves nearly 2,000 varieties of medicinal, fruit-bearing, rare, and academically significant plants, many of which are endangered and valuable for traditional Ayurvedic studies. Alungal Farms has become an important learning and research destination for Botany and Ayurveda students, offering rich reference material for academic projects and biodiversity studies. The remarkable conservation efforts of Mr. Kamath have received widespread recognition, including prestigious honors such as the Kerala Bio-diversity Award and the Vanamithra Award.
